Meddling Mother Commits Slander

Jeffrey Geurts used to be one of my roommates that was a rather complicated situation at best.  As far as I knew, we got along just fine, but I found out that a TON of complaints were made against me by his mother to the landlord when he moved out.  While the majority of the complaints were correct to a point, it was extremely blown out of proportion; a small portion of the complaints were completely ridiculous.

Jeff used to complain to me quite regularly about his mother (Mary Runge) being controlling, to which I lent a willing ear so he could blow off some steam.  I found out over time just how controlling/manipulative she really was:

• At one time, Jeff was making contributions to just about everybody who claimed to be a charitable organization.  Surprisingly enough, there are organizations out there that are not what they claim to be.  Eventually he sent a check to a bogus charity & they started making checks using his account number.  At this point, I did what I could to track down the persons responsible for this crime.  Jeff linked his bank account to an online account so I could get proof of what was happening for a police report.  We found that many of the checks were being used as in-store credit for WinCo Foods grocery stores.  Using their site, I was able to track down what stores these checks were being used at for an approximate location of where the criminal was.  Once I had this information, I helped Jeff with making the police report.  I made copies of the information that I was giving to the cops so she would have copies.
  
  After the situation, his mother took control of his accounts & only gave him pre-written checks for what she approved of.  She would not let him be in control of his own money anymore.  To top that of, she forced him to give her the password to his online account so neither one of us could access it anymore.  I have to agree that some limitations may have been needed, but cutting him off from making his own choices completely was more than a little uncalled for.

I never complained about Jeff & was willing to talk to him about those issues rather than complaining to the landlord about it.  Whenever I had an issue with him (which was rare), I would talk to him about it to see what we could do to work it out so I wouldn't have to complain to the landlord.  I also told him that if he ever had a problem with me to let me know & I'd see what I could do to work with him.  What was interesting about this is that he never talked to me about problems he may have had with me, yet a large number of complaints got dumped on the landlord when he decided to move out.  Throughout the time that we lived together, I hadn't once filed a complaint against him.

What makes the complaints filed worse is the fact that he never talked to me or the landlord about any issues he had against me.  Talking about the issues & possibly having them resolved before having an entire list would have been better than waiting until you move out & attempting to get the person you lived with evicted.  I don't blame Jeff for this disgusting display of revenge; it was his mother than filed the complaint anyways.  Jeff is the kind of person who doesn't like to get people in trouble & plays neutral most of the time.  This is only proof as to how his mother manipulates him into letting her get her own way.  She wouldn't have known much of the information if Jeff hadn't have told her.  Then she decided to amp it up & make it ten times worse than it actually was.

The conclusion of this review is that Jeff's mother will eventually use him as a tool to get what she wants.  Doing business with Mary is a losing situation as she'll eventually find a way to cause you trouble regardless of what  you're doing.  What's interesting is that she considered me "controlling, domineering, manipulative & a bully" in the complaint.  The truth is, she's probably at least three times worse than me, if not more.  If I'm as bad as she makes me out to be, then avoiding her at all costs would be one of the smartest decisions you could make, even if that means you have to avoid her entire family as well.

1/8/2017 UPDATE

The ultimate conclusion of this slander committed by Mary Runge resulted in loss of housing, assisted living in a roommate situation (all with mental disabilities) provided through Valley Mental Health, when I got bumped to the front of a housing list after the police were called when my father attempted to strangle me in front of my mother & aunt & I had to physically defend myself.

Before I lost the housing, I got paired as a roommate with a druggy/alcoholic named Jayson Bart Bowen, who I later found out had an EXTENSIVE criminal history & was coming to live here after getting out of prison (learned after doing an online background check on him, he later lost that housing & was put back in the state hospital when he refused to take his meds & only want to drink & get high).

Before Jeff, I had a rather controlling roommate named Robert McPherron, who was a good friend of the previous landlord, Kelly Benson.  Eventually the roommate situation turned toxic after I was accused of stealing Robert's checkbook & him filing a false federal crimes report through his bank.  Kelly attempted to get me to confess to this crime, even trying to get a signature on a form stating that I had done it, but I wasn't going to confess to something I didn't do, but did provide him with what information I did know about it up until the allegations against me were made.  Somewhere down the line I spoke to my doctor about it & it got back to Kelly, apparently accusing him of favoritism towards Robert & I only know this because Kelly called me directly to talk to me about it not long after I had the discussion with my doctors.  The history that Robert told me himself about his previous roommates painted a picture that he was getting special treatment & this is what lead to Kelly losing his management position of Counterpointe housing & being taken over by Gloria Simpson.

In the end I note only lost my low income housing from the slander from Mary Runge, I did get back either of my deposits either; 2 deposits were paid while Kelly Benson was still landlord of the property, the second one paid when the first was invalidated after calling the police on Robert McPherron, this came after asking Kelly Benson to do something about the abuse from Robert over the phone otherwise I would be calling the police, him telling me not to & I did it when Kelly couldn't get Robert to change his hostile attitude about it.  Gloria's excuse was that I hasn't paid a deposit to live there; according to her records, that might have been accurate considering a deposit was never paid to her, but rather paid to Kelly on both occasions.
